Wi-Fi 7 is a growing part of enterprise wireless purchasing. IDC reports that it represented 39.7% of worldwide dependent access point segment revenue in Q4 2025, compared with 10.25% a year earlier. That is revenue share, not the share of installed networks or units shipped.

For a Saudi business, a refresh should still be justified by the site's requirements and the capabilities of its clients.

What the features can deliver

The Wi-Fi Alliance's certification launch overview describes Multi-Link Operation, wider channels and higher-order modulation among Wi-Fi 7's capabilities.

Benefits depend on both the access point and client, their configuration and the radio environment. A supported feature on an AP does not mean that every laptop or scanner can use it. Wider channels also need an appropriate channel plan.

Assess the applications that matter: call quality, scanner sessions, busy meeting rooms or large transfers. Use a representative client mix and load instead of relying on an advertised peak rate.

Check the Saudi spectrum conditions

CST's Spectrum Outlook 2025–2027 records the release of 5925–7125 MHz for low-power indoor license-exempt use in 2021. The same outlook describes outdoor standard-power use with automated frequency coordination as a planned direction.

Do not treat that planning statement as an operating authorization. Check the applicable current device, power and indoor/outdoor requirements before designing a deployment. A frequency allocation does not make every device mode lawful in every setting.

Inspect the wired network

Match uplinks and power to the selected AP. HPE's Aruba 730 Series specifications distinguish unrestricted operation on appropriate power from restricted operating modes. Read the exact model's requirements rather than applying one rule to all Wi-Fi 7 products.

Existing Cat5e is not automatically limited to 2.5Gbps. Cisco documents multigigabit operation including 5Gbps on suitable Cat5e installations. Cable length, condition, interference and the connected equipment still matter; validate the installed runs.

Include switch capacity, PoE budget, redundancy and monitoring in the proposal. A radio upgrade can expose a bottleneck elsewhere in the path.

Refresh now or keep the current estate?

A refresh may make sense when the existing APs are approaching their support boundary, coverage or capacity is inadequate, or a new site needs a complete design.

A healthy, supported Wi-Fi 6 or 6E deployment does not need replacement solely because a newer generation exists. Compare the expected benefit with the cost of APs, switching, cabling, licensing and the disruption of installation.

Ask for a measured acceptance plan:

  1. Identify priority applications and client models.
  2. Record survey and capacity assumptions.
  3. Check spectrum, power and cable requirements.
  4. Test representative locations under load.
  5. Compare the result with the current service or agreed targets.
